Easter Road Safety Crackdown: TMPD On High Alert

As we approach the Easter holidays, the Tshwane Metro Police Department Communication members have launched the road safety campaign on March 22, 2026, at the intersection of Solomon Mahlangu Drive and Bronkhorstspruit Road in Silverlakes, Pretoria East.

According to Minister Creecy’s statement on the release of the 2025 Easter Road Report, the 2025 Easter holidays saw the lowest number of crashes and fatalities in the last three years, with crashes decreasing from 209 in 2024 to 141 in 2025, representing a 32.5% overall decrease compared to 2024. The 2026 campaign aims for zero crashes.

The initiative aims to educate drivers on adhering to road traffic regulations and provide them with essential road safety tips ahead of the Easter weekend, when road traffic volume surges. By promoting safe driving practices, the Tshwane Metro Police Department seeks to reduce fatalities in accidents during these high-risk periods.

A South African citizen who did not want to be named commented that this campaign will be fruitful if only the City of Tshwane fixes its traffic lights, as some aren’t working.

The Tshwane Metro Police Department asks for drivers’ cooperation and wishes them a safe Easter holiday.
