Illegal Dumping Site Cleared in Mamelodi Following Resident Complaints

The City of Tshwane has cleared an illegal dumping site in Mamelodi following complaints from residents about growing waste in the area.

Municipal teams removed large amounts of waste and debris that had accumulated at the site, which residents said had become an eyesore and a potential health hazard. Some community members raised concerns about rodents and their impact on nearby homes.

The clean-up forms part of broader efforts to address illegal dumping across Tshwane. The problem remains a persistent challenge in several areas, despite ongoing awareness campaigns and the availability of designated waste disposal facilities.

City officials have warned that illegal dumping can lead to environmental damage, blocked stormwater systems and increased health risks for nearby communities.

Residents are encouraged to use authorised waste disposal sites for household, garden and building waste, and to report illegal dumping to the relevant authorities.

Mr Muthokozisi Ncube, a local resident, welcomed the clean-up. “We are happy to see action being taken. Clean surroundings make a difference in people’s lives, and we hope residents also play their part to keep the area clean,” he said.

The City has indicated that monitoring of known dumping hotspots will continue to prevent waste from accumulating again.
