The City of Tshwane has confirmed that the Parkmore Low-Level Reservoir Expansion Project in Ward 83 has reached 98% completion, marking a major step toward improving long-term water security in the eastern parts of the city.
The progress update was announced during an oversight inspection attended by Executive Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya, MMC for Roads and Transport Cllr Tlangi Mogale, and MMC for Community Safety Ald Hannes Coetzee.
Located in Waterkloof Glen, the project forms part of the City’s Water Stabilisation Plan aimed at strengthening water resilience and supporting growing residential and commercial demand in Pretoria East and surrounding areas.
The infrastructure upgrade includes the construction of a new 10-megalitre low-level reservoir, feeder and delivery pipelines, refurbishment of the existing control room and the development of a new inlet pipe control room.
The city stated that the reservoir structure has been completed, while internal pipelines are 98% complete and other components, including fencing and final internal fittings, are nearing completion.
Although practical completion had been scheduled for 19 June 2026, delays linked to hard rock excavation, material removal challenges and contractor performance issues prevented the milestone from being achieved on time.
The city said accountability measures, including contractual penalties where necessary, have been implemented to ensure the remaining work is completed as soon as possible.
Beyond infrastructure delivery, the project has created socio-economic opportunities, with 85% of labour opportunities allocated to local residents, contributing to skills development and local economic growth.
