Quick police work following a community tip off has resulted in two arrests and a recovery of stolen property valued at roughly R450 000 in Mamelodi.
The Tshwane Flying Squad acted on information and tracking data supplied by a vehicle recovery company. The data pointed them to a hijacked vehicle that was later discovered abandoned on Milenyane Tsele Street in Lusaka.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Spang, police spokesperson, the bakkie was being used to move gas cylinders. Officers then followed leads to another address in Mamelodi. There they found more cylinders and took two men into custody.
The gas cylinders seized at the second location are estimated to be worth around R50 000. Combined with the vehicle valued at approximately R400 000, the total recovery comes to about R450 000.
Members of the Local Criminal Record Centre processed the scene. The vehicle was later transported to the Pretoria West Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit. All evidence was handled according to standard procedure, and the suspects remain in custody pending further investigation.
