The Tshwane MMC for Social Development and Community Services, Cllr Peggy de Bruin said two of the City’s sports development capital projects, the Caledonian stadium in Region 3 and Refilwe stadium in Region 5 are progressing well.

This is after the MMC conducted an oversight visit to the construction site on 30 May 2022.

Ms de Bruin said she was pleased to note that the projects are on course for completion for the benefit of residents.

“This Department has allocated a capital budget of R85 million towards the construction and completion is scheduled to be completed during the 2022/23 financial year. Refilwe stadium is allocated R35 million while Caledonian has been allocated R50 million,” she said.

The MMC said the Caledonian stadium is slightly ahead, as work includes stripping and demolition of old structures, removal of spectator seating and embankments while the brickwork for the boundary wall also commenced.

“The Social Development and Community Services Department is working diligently to ensure that our commitments and spending are transparent and that the required budget is utilized to provide quality infrastructure and services for the benefit of our residents,” she said.
