The Mamelodi Business Hub (MBH) accompanied by UNICEF and PwC, spent their 67 minutes inviting children from local Early childhood development centers to the University of Pretoria Mamelodi campus to teach them about food security.

The day included an interactive program with the children by teaching them using learning through play. They were taught where their food comes from and how to grow their own food. The children

Mr Phetha Siweli of MBH said “With the rallying cry, Do what you can, with what you have, where you are, the Nelson Mandela Foundation has chosen to center Nelson Mandela Day 2022 around its food and nutrition program.

“The foundation encouraged everyone who participated in the campaign to take part in sustainable initiatives including developing home and community gardens.

“The MBH, in collaboration with UNICEF and PwC, decided to make a change by encouraging young minds to be more resourceful and to learn through play.

“Thank you to UNICEF for arranging with the Lego Foundation to sponsor Lego to the ECDs who joined for the day. PWC provided the coloring books and crayons, once again promoting learning through play.

“Thank you to Professor Alex Antonites and his staff ensured that the day was memorable,” he said.

Professor Alex Antonites, from University of Pretoria said “It’s all about being human and looking out for one another. Gratitude to MBH and other ambassadors for making today meaningful.

“I’m sure these young people from the Mamelodi village are learning something about how important humanity and peace are in life.

“Thank you to everyone who contributed to making today such an enlightening day for us. My wish is that people would continue to look out for one another and treat one another with love and peace,” he said.
