In a major law enforcement operation, the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) has dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking activities in the city. The TMPD Drug Unit and Cable Theft Unit, working with other agencies, conducted a successful search and seizure operation in the Pretoria East precinct on Monday, July 22, 2024.

The operation resulted in the arrest of two Nigerian nationals found in possession of a substantial quantity of drugs. The suspects were found with an estimated street value of R255,000 worth of heroin (nyaope). Additionally, equipment used in the production of the drugs was discovered in the Mooikloof area.
Further investigations in the Pretoria East area led to the apprehension of another Nigerian male suspected of supplying drugs to the local market. The suspect was found in possession of crystal meth and KAT, with an estimated street value of R100,000.

Building on the initial success, on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the TMPD Drug Unit received a tip-off about suspicious activities in the Pretoria West area. Drug Unit members responded and searched, leading them to a flat where a Nigerian male was found with 204 grams of crystal meth, 2,800 packets of heroin, and 919 grams of heroin powder. The total street value of the seized drugs is estimated at R434,700, and the suspect was promptly arrested.
“The Tshwane Metro Police Department is committed to ensuring that Tshwane remains a drug-free city,” said the City in a statement. “These successful operations demonstrate our dedication to disrupting the drug trade and protecting our community.”
All the suspects arrested in these operations are currently detained at the local police station and will appear in court soon. The Tshwane Metro Police Department has commended the exceptional work and commitment of the TMPD members involved in these drug busts.
