Residents across various parts of Mamelodi will face scheduled power outages as the City of Tshwane carries out infrastructure upgrades to improve network stability.

The Energy and Electricity Business Unit has announced that it will cut power supply to affected areas on two consecutive Saturdays: June 13th and June 20th. The outages are scheduled to last for 10 hours each day, from 08:00 until 18:00.

The shutdowns are due to ongoing work at the Heatherley Substation. Technical teams will conduct maintenance and connect new infrastructure to the power grid.

According to City officials, the work will involve shutting down the 132kV-to-11kV transformer to allow for the connection of 11kV panels. These improvements are intended to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the electricity network.

The areas expected to be impacted by the outages include:

  • Savanna Estate
  • The Blyde
  • Nellmapius Extensions 6, 7, 8 and 22
  • Pienaarspoort
  • Kopanong

Residents are urged to prepare for the planned outages and exercise caution during the shutdown period. The city has issued a warning to the community, advising residents to treat all electrical installations as live and not to assume that appliances or wiring are safe to touch while maintenance work is ongoing.

While the planned shutdowns will likely cause temporary inconvenience to households and businesses, the City of Tshwane maintains that the upgrades are necessary to contribute to a more reliable and efficient electricity supply in the long term.
