The City of Tshwane’s MMC for Health, Cllr Tshegofatso Mashabela, visited the Community Oriented Substance Use Programme (COSUP)Lusaka site on Friday to provide moral support to staff traumatised by an armed robbery on Wednesday, 6 August 2026.
Four staff members were on duty when armed criminals entered the facility and robbed them. The affected employees are currently receiving trauma counselling and psychosocial support.
During the visit, Cllr Tshegofatso Mashabela commended staff for their resilience and reaffirmed that healthcare workers should never be targets of crime.
“Healthcare workers should never become targets of criminal activity, particularly those whose daily work is focused on restoring hope and improving the lives of vulnerable residents,” she said.
The COSUP Lusaka facility plays a key role in addressing substance abuse in the community. It records about 1 500 monthly visits and currently supports more than 200 clients with treatment, counselling and psychosocial care.
The City condemned the attack, saying criminality has no place in communities and that such acts not only endanger staff but also deprive vulnerable residents of essential services.
