Officials from the City of Tshwane were on the ground in Mamelodi this week, identifying priority roads set to benefit from a resurfacing programme scheduled for May.

MMC for Roads and Transport, Tlangi Mogale, led the inspection alongside municipal officials and ward councillors, walking through affected areas to assess road conditions firsthand. The visit forms part of the City’s broader infrastructure drive to improve mobility and service delivery across townships.

The initiative comes as the municipality continues to invest in road upgrades, with projects in Mamelodi forming part of a wider plan to improve transport networks, road safety, and economic activity in the region. Residents who witnessed the visit shared mixed, yet hopeful, reactions.

“I’m glad they finally came to see the roads themselves. We’ve been complaining about potholes for years, so maybe now something will change,” said a local taxi driver who operates in the area.

Another community member expressed cautious optimism: “We appreciate the effort, but we’ve seen promises before. We just hope this time they follow through and fix the roads properly.” Said the concerned resident, who did not want to be named.

The city says the ongoing assessments will help determine which roads are prioritised, ensuring that resources are directed where they are most needed. Officials also indicated that community input will help shape the final implementation of the resurfacing programme.
