ActionSA President, Mr Herman Mashaba, accompanied by Chief David Tembe, Interim Senate Member and the ActionSA Gauteng Manager of Operations, Mr Abel Tau, visited the site of the tragic drowning of two young boys yesterday.
The two boys, Siyabonga Mabila (7) and Lawrence Tshweu (4), drowned at an unattended construction site in Pienaarspoort Mamelodi on 02 March 2021.
Mr Mashaba said this matter should not be treated as an accident but the murder of two young boys because of negligence.
“We will deal with the situation legally by taking actions against whoever is accountable for this.
“We will do this until our government treats us as human beings and understand their obligations that when they are involved in construction sites, safety and health is one of the priorities,” he said.
Mr Deon Moore, Lawrence’s uncle, said the family is devastated and broken about this big loss.
“He was only 4, he had big dreams and he promised his grandmother that when he grows up he is going to buy them a house and a car,” he said.
Siyabonga’s Aunty, Sophie Mkonyane, said she is pained as it came as a surprise.
“In my family, we don’t really work, so we don’t really know how we are going to cover funeral costs,” she said.
