Five suspects were arrested in Mamelodi for possession of unlicensed firearms, three 9 mm pistols, and two revolvers on 29 June 2021.
Senior Superintendent for Tshwane Metro Police Department, Isaac Mahamba, said the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) K9 members received information about five suspects who were in possession of unlicensed firearms driving a silver Toyota along Solomon Mahlangu Drive in Mamelodi.
Officers called for backup from SAPS and other law enforcement agencies and waited for the suspects in the direction they were traveling along Solomon Mahlangu Drive.
The suspects drove past the officers and a chase ensued. After a short pursuit, the suspects pulled over their vehicle and surrendered. Their vehicle was searched and the TMPD K9 members recovered the unlicensed firearms and arrested the suspects.
Senior Superintendent Mahamba said the police will continue to work hard to rule out all criminal activities in Tshwane.
