The Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane Mr Randall Williams together with the MMC for Community Safety Ms Karen Meyer, on 22 June 2021 officially opened a new Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) satellite station in region six to serve Pretoria east residents.
Mr William said the establishment of the satellite office came after assessments indicated that there was a need to enhance TMPD services in the area.
“Previously, TMPD region six members were responding from the Mamelodi office, which was a challenge to arrive on time to some remote parts of this region.
“The new satellite station will afford TMPD members the opportunity to respond promptly to issues of safety and security affecting residents in areas such as Garsfontein, Plastic View and Wolwespruit,” he said.
The satellite station will operate with the assistance of fully capacitated Mamelodi region six, sector 1 station.
Mr. Williams said, “Currently TMPD has deployed 40 officers to the station, and they will be managed by three senior officials. The station will operate on a 24-hour shift basis to adequately perform the core TMPD functions which include By-law enforcement, road policing and crime prevention,” he said.
