The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) confiscated several hazardous and counterfeit products during a by-law enforcement operation conducted in Mamelodi West on Thursday, 6 May 2026.
According to the TMPD Communication Unit, the operation focused on local supermarkets to ensure compliance with the Business Act and municipal by-laws. During the inspections, officers shut down several businesses found to be operating without valid trading licences. Authorities also confiscated expired and counterfeit goods believed to pose health risks to consumers. In addition, Section 56 infringement notices were issued to business owners found to be in violation of municipal regulations.
TMPD said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to protect residents from unsafe trading practices and to ensure businesses comply with legal requirements.
In a separate operation, the TMPD Pedestrian Unit arrested several pedestrians found walking on major highways across Tshwane. Police expressed concern over the growing number of pedestrians using highways illegally, warning that the behaviour places both pedestrians and motorists at serious risk.
Residents have been urged to make use of designated pedestrian crossings and avoid walking on high-speed roads. The TMPD said it will continue conducting enforcement operations across Tshwane to improve public safety and ensure compliance with municipal by-laws.
