Children from the Bophelong Children Centre in Mamelodi were treated to a memorable day of care and celebration when the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Social Crime Prevention Unit hosted a special Child Protection Month outreach programme.
The initiative was led by Chief of Police Commissioner Yolande Faro, whose ongoing “Adopt an Orphanage Home” programme continues to impact the lives of vulnerable children across Tshwane. This year marks the third consecutive year of the initiative, which provides support, encouragement, and basic necessities to children in need.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner Faro called on businesses, organisations and community members to join hands to support orphanages and children’s homes.
“Every child deserves love, protection and an opportunity to feel valued. As law enforcement officers, we also have a responsibility to uplift our communities and support vulnerable children,” she said.
The day began with a breakfast outing at KFC Elardus Park, where the children enjoyed meals, birthday celebrations and gifts. Officers spent time interacting with the children, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere.
In addition to the festivities, TMPD officers and Commissioner Faro donated groceries purchased from their own contributions to assist the children’s centre.
Caregivers at the centre expressed gratitude for the officers’ support and kindness, saying the visit brought excitement and hope to the children.
The outreach programme formed part of Child Protection Month activities aimed at raising awareness of children’s rights and well-being, while encouraging communities to play an active role in protecting and supporting them.
