In the spirit of service that defines Nelson Mandela Day, Mamelodi Square partnered with local retailers on Mandela day to bring dignity and support to beneficiaries of the Tlakukani Disability Centre.
The shopping centre, in collaboration with JAM Clothing and Nizams, handed over wheelchairs, clothing and health packs to the centre as part of its Mandela Day Celebration themed “Creating Change for Good.”
Officials and volunteers gathered on Mandela day to deliver the donations. The wheelchairs were jointly donated by Mamelodi Square, JAM Clothing and Nizams to assist beneficiaries with mobility. JAM Clothing also contributed clothing items, while Nizams provided health packs aimed at supporting the daily needs of those at the centre.
Organisers said the initiative was about more than just giving. It was about honouring Madiba’s call to make a tangible difference in communities, especially for vulnerable groups.
The donation drive forms part of broader Mandela Day activities across Tshwane, where businesses and community groups dedicate 67 minutes, and more, to service and upliftment.
As South Africans marked Mandela Day, the Mamelodi partnership underscored the day’s message: that small, collective acts can build stronger, more inclusive communities.
